TEXT: I Corinthians 6:12-20
SUBJECT: A Good Doctrine Gone Bad
Ideas have consequences. What you believe will affect how you live. In 1930, Germany was a civilized country, no worse than France or England or the United States. But under the wicked doctrines of National Socialism, it committed crimes of unspeakable depravity on a mind-boggling scale. When Germany was de-Nazified after the war, it became, once again, a civilized country, no worse than France or England or the United States. Ideas have consequences. What you believe will affect how you live.
This is why theology matters; it is why the Divinity of Christ is not only a true doctrine, it is a good doctrine; believing it will make you a better person than you would be if you denied it.
The Apostle Paul was a wonderfully practical man; he had no use for fables, endless genealogies, foolish disputes, contentions, and strivings about the Law. Under the discipline of Christ, this great thinker had learned to not go beyond what is written. Speculation did not charm him; but the truth did! Doctrine mattered to Paul; he wasn't satisfied with his friends being 'nice people'; he wanted them to walk in the truth.
